Monday February 25th 2008 Offscreen, a new film festival (Brussels)

Category: General, Expo, Animation & Film
The first edition of Offscreen Film Fest will take place from the 21th of February untill the 9th of March 2008 in Cinema Nova and the Filmmuseum.
Offscreen is a showcase for unusual and independent talent and will screen unreleased films, cult classics, extraordinary documentaries and offbeat genres from around the world. By means of thematic modules and alternative screening formats we want to connect contemporary film with the history of cinema. The focus lies on groundbreaking cinema that is not afraid of crossing boundaries.
During three long weekends Cinema Nova, the famous alternative film theatre in the centre of Brussels, will be transformed into an exotic exhibit place for the most amazing and wonderful films. More than thirty feature films, documentaries and a number of special events will offer a broad and challenging program. Between the 31st of February and the 9th of March a select retrospective program will be held at the Filmmuseum.
To be expected in Cinema Nova are 3-D screenings of classic cult movies, a special on contemporary and classic Freak Cinema and a retrospective including lectures on Tod Browning in the Filmmuseum. Also, a homage program dedicated to Jack Hill, godfather of grindhouse en blaxploitation cinema, who will present some of his films (Spider Baby, Coffy, Foxy Brown) in person. The collective vzw cirQ from Ghent will turn Cinema Nova into a true sideshow including special acts and exhibition.
